Freedom Scientific Releases JAWS 16
Support for MathML, JAWS Command Search, and Enhanced Convenient OCR for PDF
(St. Petersburg, FL - October 28, 2014)
Freedom Scientific today announced the release of version 16 of JAWS® for Windows, the world's premier screen reading software. Significant new features include:
- Access to MathML content rendered by MathJax™ in Internet Explorer
- JAWS Command Search - making it much easier for all users to locate various JAWS features along with the required keystroke
- Convenient OCR feature improvements to now access entire inaccessible PDF documents within seconds
MathML is a language for including mathematical content on Web pages, enabling browsers to present math equations and formulas as they would appear on paper. JAWS 16 now provides spoken, natural language descriptions of MathML expressions, using the same terms a teacher would use to explain them in a classroom. There is a written, visual language of math, described by MathML. However, there is also a spoken language used when people discuss math problems. Students will benefit from hearing JAWS describe mathematical expressions as their teachers and peers do.
The JAWS 16 upgrade is an SMA release and can be downloaded as either a 32- or 64-bit version from the JAWS Downloads Web page DVD shipments to SMA holders and new product customers will commence on November 1, 2014.
